Our Story

Stonelake of Halifax opened its doors in 2015, Brothers Ben and Luke have re-ignited the business after following in their family’s footsteps. Their Grandad, Edward Oughton and his Son Stewart (Ben and Luke’s father) first opened in 1968 as a Land Rover Main Dealer in Halifax, trading as Copley Motors Ltd. After establishing the business Stewart expanded, taking the business and his loyal customer base to Wakefield under the new name of Stonelake Land Rover- The inspiration for our business name today.

Today, Stonelake has grown significantly in size and business, we have expanded the team and built up a strong customer base. We pride ourselves on standing out from the rest and going the extra mile for our customers.


Service Manager & Director

Ben manages the Service Department and oversees the workshop on a daily basis. He is highly knowledgeable and efficient and can often be found back under a vehicle assisting with tricky jobs.

Ben joined his local Land Rover Dealership, Rocar Moores, Huddersfield (now Rybrook) in 2005 after leaving school. He completed the 3 year Land Rover Apprenticeship Programme, attending the award-winning Land Rover plant in Liverpool each month to learn the latest methods in repairing and diagnosing Land Rover products.

In 2009, Ben completed his Land Rover Diagnostic level 3 exams at the Land Rover training facility in Leamington Spa. He then went on to improve himself further to qualify as a Land Rover level 4 Master Technician, which he passed to become one of the youngest level 4 Master Technicians in the country.

Ben has a passion for Land Rovers old and new and loves a challenge, he is the go-to man for complicated and unusual jobs. In his spare time, he can enjoys spending time with his son and riding his motorbike…if his other half allows him!!


Master Technician & Director

After completing his GCSEs, Luke followed in his father's and brother's footsteps to become the latest Land Rover technician in the family.

Luke also completed his Land Rover apprenticeship program at Rocar Moores where he did the full 3 years at the Land Rover plant in Liverpool and Land Rover training facility in Leamington Spa.

After completing his apprenticeship Luke also passed his exams to become a level 3 diagnostic technician, in recognition of his hard work and thoroughness Luke was then short listed as one of five nominated candidates for the Jaguar and Land Rover Apprentice of The Year Award, he was the only person in the North of England to be nominated for this prestigious award.

Luke also has a passion for old and new Land Rovers including military vehicles. Luke is very good at tricky intricate jobs where patience is required. In his spare time, Luke enjoys riding his push bike around tracks in Wales.




Gemma is our Receptionist, she will often be the cheery voice taking your call and greeting you on arrival. Gemma can also often be seen cleaning and tidying around the site, usually with a bottle of Zoflora and a cloth in her hand.

In her spare time, she is kept busy with her Son, usually trying to stop him from eating everything in the kitchen!
